Motorcycle radios come in many shapes and sizes. Some are custom fit for your motorcycle, while others are generic builds that you clamp onto the handle bars. Despite these differences there are some similar qualities that any good motorcycle radio must have.
These radios must be weatherproof. What happens if you’re out on a ride and it starts pouring rain? Well, if your radio isn’t waterproof, it gets destroyed, that’s what. How do you prevent this from happening? The best way to avoid shorting out your radio during a rain storm is to use a marine radio. These aren’t the type of radios you’d use to call in “Mayday!” when you’re ship’s going down. No, these are your standard AM/FM/CD radios. In addition, they are rugged and waterproof, and are meant to handle the torrential rains of the high seas, which means they can handle any rain storm mother Earth throws at you.
Motorcycle radios have to be LOUD. Road noise on a motorcycle is incredibly loud, even at low speeds, so your radio needs to be able to sustain high volume levels for extended period of time. This requires speakers that can handle this workload. Speakers built for motorcycle usage are designed for such usage. One brand of this type of speaker is Rumble Road. Rumble Road speakers look like a smaller version of a chrome headlight, except there’s two of them, and they’re pointed right at you, blasting you with sound.
To aid in the loudness factor of your motorcycle radio, you’re going to want to get an amplifier made specifically for motorcycles. One such amplifier is the Biketronics Titan. This motorcycle amplifier boasts a 10 minute install using factory connectors, and it is claimed that listening to it at its highest levels can and will damage your hearing. Now that’s some serious power. This big sound comes in a small package at 1.5″x3.25″x4.25″.
If you combine these three components; a waterproof radio, speakers that can take a pounding and a powerful motorcycle amp, you will have the ultimate motorcycle radio system.

I have a honda reflex 250 it has a 12 volt system but will it handle a amplifier on it? It is quiet yet I wear hearing aids, not while riding but I need the radio loud. Thanks
It should have no problem handling an amplifier that is designed for motorcycle audio usage. Most systems come complete with an amplifier designed for this purpose.
